10 Reasons why you should Sponsor me!

This site is about me building a healthier me. It is about me raising enough money to be able to buy a house, get out of debt, and go through infertility treatment(If losing weight isn’t enough)…

According to doctors if I drop 200 lbs, then we have a 40% chance of having a baby el-naturale. That’s a 60% chance overall as we’re now at a 20%. It’s not perfect, but it’s a lot better, and it’s a good place to start infertility treatments at. Which is why I need to get there first. My wife, struggles everday with this. Ever since she was young our faith has pounded into her head how her ultimate goal and reason for being is to be a mother. Now that she can’t she’s devastated.

With both of us working we currently earn roughly $18/hour or $720/weekly or $2880 gross paycheck. Of which 1000 is taken out for deductions - taxes, and insurance. Leaving us with about $2080 a month.

We generally pay $65 a week for gas(car), which adds upto: $260, or leaves us with $1820.

We also have rent - which is $600 - leaving us 1220. Add to that our car payment - $300 and we’re at $920.

Now that $920 must be split up between all of our other bills: electric, gas(natural), phone, internet, Tv, medical expenses, new clothing, school loans, back bills, our mountain of debt, groceries, etc….

Now this is when things are going good - there have been a lot of times when for one reason or another one of us or both have been laid off work for a month or two even, and it takes forever to get caught back up.

On top of that we’ve gone through the process of ‘Fostering to Adopt’, just to find out after taking the classes and doing all the paperwork, etc… that we don’t even make enough right now, to do the program - talk about adding insult to injury. We can’t have our own kids, we can’t foster someone else’s and possibly adopt. We can’t go back to school because we can’t afford to. We’re pretty much stuck where we are.

What I want to do…. I want to go back to school, and become a Teacher. Namely secondary ed. I’d actually like to be a Latin Teacher if possible. Someday I’d like to do something bigger with teaching and start a Charter school… for poor families. I’d also like to run for public office someday down the road, but I figure I need control of my own life, health, and family before I can start down that path.

Now for the 10 Reasons why you should Sponsor me!

    1. I’m cute, cuddly, and friendly and it will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing you made my day brighter(I know, sounds a little gay but might appeal to some reading this, especially if I felt out this sentence here..oh well).
    2. ATTN: John Chow wannabes - Ahem…He is sponsoring me, so I think you should as well.
    3. Exposure. John Chow was just the beginning I’ve got a radio station with 200,000 listeners working with me, and I might be going on a couple of different tv shows, — but that’s not yet solid. The point - this site is about to explode, even more than it already has, which means the faster you sponsor me, the more traffic you will get.
    4. 1 year + Free Advertising! Free until I am a success and can collect my money - it could take 2 years! Sponsors will receive FREE advertising rotated on this site for as long as it is up and running - You can submit a 125 X 125 banner, a text ad for inclusion on-site, and in our feed footer, Plus you’ll get a link in my ‘Sponsors’ section of my blogroll. Also there’s a good chance I’ll write a blog post about your sponsorship.
    5. It might be tax deductible, I’m no accountant - but hey it might be, plus you’ll be helping not only me but the American Diabetes Foundation.
    6. You will be able to feel all warm and fuzzy knowing you helped us start our family.
    7. The Lord will certainly Bless you and Keep you.  or at the very least you won’t be Smitten by God…consider it Fire - insurance. hehe…
    8. Everybody else is doing it, or will be - instead of being pressured by your peers, why not be the first in on this and be their peer pressure, it’s always nice to be the first eh?
    9. It’s the fad of today, and it would be a shame to not jump at the latest fad. Where would entrecard be without bloggers who jump at the latest fad…
    10. Because I am right now…I know you can’t see me.. I will put up video footage eventually, but I am now on my knees begging … Perty Perty Perty please sponsor me? How about if I put a cherry on top - would that sweetend the deal? lol.
I’m sure I could go on and give you 20… but you might get highly annoyed and I think this is the best reason of all to Sponsor me - Because if you do - I’ll shut up about it!    :???:

6 to 20. My prison sentence? Nope! My elevator ratio.

I was in the elevator today at work, because I have Bronchitis this week, so am having trouble taking the stairs because it lands me in a coughing fit, and I’d rather not cough right now, my throat is raw.

Back to the elevator - I was reading the weight limits, according to the sign in the elevator it says 3000 lbs or 20 people, and I’m thinking woah, wait a second. Which is it? Because 6 people my size equal 3000 lbs. In fact — the 20 people in the elevator would each have to weigh 150 lbs or less. So that’s how I came up with the 6:20 ratio. It’s pretty sad, but I’m happy that this will be the last year of that, I’d be happy with a 12:20 or better.

Now I’m thinking holy "insert profanity"(remember I’m an innocent Mormon boy).

Seriously - Americans are fat and getting fatter. I highly doubt the average American weighs 150 lbs. Maybe 200. Which brings the weight limit down to 2000.

Luckily, most people at work take the stairs and I’ve never seen more than 2-3 people in the elevator at any one time, but it sure does make you think…what if?

tat coldworking metal fatigue ...huh? you say? An seo experiment...

Huh!? is what I said when I first heard of the keyword phrase “tat coldworking metal fatigue”.

How did I come up with this keyword?

I was using WebCeo’s cool Keyword tools, and did a search for weight loss related keywords, I further clicked on fat and chose ‘get suggestions’, and it found that the keyword: tat coldworking metal fatigue is actually an awesome keyword to use - here is why.

First, there are 6,065 daily world searches for “tat coldworking metal fatigue”.

Second, there are roughly only 483 competitors, which means those sites could each share 12 visitors per day, or 4,380 per year, but of course we know that the top 5-10 sites get 90% of the clicks.

Thirdly the KEI(I’m new to this but that means how valuable it is…) is like 76,157,816.

I did a search myself for Tat coldworking metal fatigue and the quality of sites listed was hardly good at all - I couldn’t even really find out what the term meant from the search, except that metal fatigue, relates to metal wearing down, and “fatiguing” coldworking I’m assuming is something you do to metal(I’m not a metal worker, sue me… ) and Tat? well, I have no Idea - but still it was definitely an interesting find, and who knows, after this blog post my site might be ranked #1 for Tat coldworking metal fatigue, and for those who are really interested in that keyword phrase

Why not take this opportunity to read over my site and sponsor my weight loss experiment and watch me lose weight and earn money for myself and the American Diabetes Foundation.

It's scary sometimes...to realize how fragile this life is.

I have issues where I get dizzy, it happens frequently when I’ve been sitting for awhile and begin to stretch. I get light headed, and at times I feel if I continue stretching that I might just pass out.

Sometimes it happens when I get up too fast. But what’s scary, is when it first happened a few years back, I thought it was something serious, and even though I’ve been told its nothing super serious, it is poor circulation which isn’t a great thing, but it’s not going to kill me today, (most likely, you never know what else is going on…)

Each time it happens, it truly freaks me out, I think what happens if I do pass out, will I wake back up? What would my family do? It makes me think of the fragileness of life, I am by no means afraid to die, I believe I’ve done what I need to, to at least go to a ‘good place’, per my beliefs, but I want to live a long, full life, and I have a lot more to learn, and many more experiences to experience.

I’m excited about the proposition of finally being able to go back to all the amusement parks I went to when I was young, and being able to fit in the rides again. To just be able to drive a car and feel ’safe’ (be able to fasten the seat belt. Most of all I long to be able to buy clothes - cheap clothes, and many of them from Walmart, Target, etc… Big and tall prices are outrageous.

Sponsor me and Sponsor the American Diabetes Foundation - Per JohnChow.com

Either as a suggestion or criticism of my plight, Mike Panic, suggested I’d be better off raising money for a Charity like the American Diabetes Foundation.

You can read about that in the comments of John Chow’s endorsement / sponsorship of my Weight Loss plan.

I responded that it was a good idea, and that I would now be giving 25% of my sponsorship money to the American Diabetes Foundation.

I know a number of people with Diabetes, my wife’s best friend is one, and I know that IF I keep living the same way I’ve been living then I have an 80% chance or better of becoming Diabetic myself.

I have a big thing against needles, shots, and pricking parts of my body. In other words: a low pain tolerance. As I mentioned this on John Chow, in a comment, this is my Official post to make everyone aware of this, and perhaps give you a better reason to sponsor me.

Recap: 25% of ALL sponsorships, including advertisers of this site will go to the American Diabetes Foundation.

Thanks for the shoutout from MoriTherapy.com

Isabella Mori, over at MoriTherapy, gave my project a good write up today. Her blog is about change, and she herself is a Psychotherapist, from Vancouver.

I’ve also been somewhat interested in Psychology for a long time, and lately especially I’ve been interested in the Emotional Freedom Technique(EFT), which might not be traditional form of psychotherapy, but I’ve seen it work some amazing results. I was sold though, because it uses Acupressure, which I’m a fan / practitioner of as a Massage Therapist.

    What is this blog about?

This blog is about: Patrick Curl’s struggle against weight all his life.  This is his one chance to make it all change.

(Written in the 3rd person…)  If you are reading this on myspace, xanga, facebook, etc - please go to my blog @ http://www.patrickcurl.com

How he is going to lose: Sponsors like John Chow, will pay him an ‘amount’ per pound that he loses, or when he reaches special goals. In the case of John Chow,  Patrick will earn $1/pound for the first 100 pounds, $2/pound for the second 100 pounds, and $3 per pound for the third 100 pounds. Also just people paying attention to, and offering words of encouragement can help. At the basic level, it’s about both creating motivation, but also building a support network, of friends who want him to succeed.

How you can help: Link it. Link to Patrick, and you will be helping him. Sponsor him and he will give you free advertising in return.

About Patrick:  He loves music, especially Linkin’ Park and Evanescence. He’s a big Heroes fan, also likes the Office, My Name is Earl. He loves just about all movies, but Lord of the Rings will never be topped.

He is Mormon/LDS, but not voting for Mitt Romney, he is more of a Kucinich fan, followed by Edwards, but since they’re both out, Obama will have to do - there’s no way he would ever vote for Hillary.

He is married to a beautiful wife, and they have been trying to have a baby for 2 years, but that hasn’t happened as they’d like it, they are currently getting licensed for foster care, and going to adopt via fostering. They are still hoping for their Miracle baby - the doctor seems to believe highly that losing 200 lbs may solve their fertility issues.

BETA TEST: NOW HIRING! My other webfront Properties.... BlogContestSite.com, Theresabloginmysoup.com, Aboutbodywork.com, etc...

In my efforts over the past year or so, I have acquired a number of web properties, my biggest and best is probably BlogContestSite.com, a contest site that due to time constrictions, is only kept up-to-date every now and again, which is actually quite a bummer, because it could be really big. I’d like to turn Theresabloginmysoup.com into something like Triond only with a better payout - I’d be willing to payout 80%, I just need to figure out the programming/design.

So I am looking for help - currently I’ve made approximately $35 off all my sites in the past year. Not a whole lot - and of course Adsense won’t even pay you till you reach $100. I’m looking for people to help me build daily active content on these sites - your job should you take it - is Create an account and post original online contests. Articles on marketing and blog promotion are also welcome. As are 1 post introducing yourself, and 1 post as a review of your own blog(you can review EACH blog that you own, but they better be decent blogs, and not made for adsense via wordpress blogs).

I am going to be sharing my monthly revenue like so: For each article you post you will gain 1 point or share, for each comment you post you will gain .25 shares.

Each check that I receive, I will be taking 35% for myself & site up-keep, and put 65% into a pool, your points will expire and be reset every 3 months, to make way for new bloggers, however you could go a whole month without blogging and still make money.

This ensures everyone who writes something will get paid. The minimum payout is only $10. I will announce each payment I receive. This makes it easier to track across multiple affiliate programs including linkshare, cj, adsense, and widgetbux.

Let me know if you’d like to be a member - Please note this is a BETA test of the program, so I am only going to allow 5-10 people to start. I’m

also looking for a programmer who would like a 50% share of the "admin’s" cut. Please Let me know by commenting on this post. Or email me: yourstruly AT patrickcurl DOT com.

One pant size down - ...eh.. 38 more to go!

So, just for fun, I decided today, that I would try on a pair of pants that have been snug for awhile, I generally only have kept 1-2 pair of pants as my ass seems to expand and contract quite frequently, lol.

    I just can’t believe I’ve let myself get upto a size 76 pant size…well I might be down to 74 now…I hope…

When one pair gets tight, I go and buy another pair… as of lately - I’m pretty much stuck in sweat pants, as I can’t afford/nor fit in anything better. I look like a freak at a job interview w/ my black sweats, my white shirt, tie, and my dressy button up coat that doesn’t quite button.

My goal? Ultimately 34-36 would be nice. I’d settle for 42′ish -as I’ve always been a big build.

    The sad thing is - I haven’t been below a size 50 since I was 12 years old. 50!@12!.

Right now I’d kill just to be a 50 again.

Anyways, this is just my noontime - break rant.

What’s the biggest pant size you ever wore?

    The stairs.....

I’m still pretty out of shape, but thanks to my office cubicle being a football field away from my car, and up a large flight of stairs. Not to mention my 2000 or lower caloric intake.

I can tell I’m losing weight and inches - even if my weight doesn’t read yet on my scale(Max: 500 lbs).

The first big milestone for me, will to be able to see my progress on my scale which I bought a few years ago, just for this purpose.

It’s pretty sad, in 2005 I weighed 487 and lost all the way down to 430, and now I’m upto 555 lbs(well probably closer to 530 or so by now.. I will be making a trek to the zoo when the snow clears a bit to get an update on my weight.

As my wife nonchalantly pointed out, I weigh like 50 lbs more than her(215), her friend (about 250 or so), and her friends 3 yr old stroller included.

But at least I’m working hard. Starting tomorrow, I am planning on wearing a pedometer, and tracking my steps - my goal is to do at least 100 more steps each day.

Back to the stairs - We have 15 stairs between the upstairs and the cafeteria at work - I walked about 50 feet, then up these stairs today, and I find myself just so winded. I had to take a 2 minute break at the top of the stairs because I couldn’t breath at all. It’s pretty darn pathetic. It kills my knees each trip. Since working here, I’ve made it imperative that I at least make 2 such trips up the stairs…no matter how much it hurts. It doesn’t seem like much, but I can see the difference each day. I’m hoping to be able to purchase a gym membership, or get one sponsored by the radio station I’m working w/ here in the next week or so.

Featured on JohnCHOW! Holy#$#%(I'd curse if I weren't Mormon).

So, I just got off work.

Earlier I had sent a letter to John Chow to let him know about my plight. I sent some letters to a few other big time bloggers as well, like Darren Rowse, and Shoemoney. John was the first to jump on the bandwagon, and he jumped big!

    John Chow said:

“OK Patrick, you got a deal! I’ll give you $1 per pound for the first 100lbs, $2 per pound for the second 100lbs and $3 per pound for the third 100lbs. Payment will be made in 100lb increments. Once you get to 455lbs, I’ll send you the first payment. Good luck!”

All I can say is that I’m truly greatful, for this opportunity. I’m also totally excited and dedicated to seeing it through. I hope others take the step John has to help me out. I have so far: $7 from family + the $1-3 from John. Puts me at almost $10. So far I am 10% of the way to my goal!

Moreover it puts me at: $3,000 when I reach 255 lbs.

New Job, is making me break a sweat.

So, I just started a new job. I make appointments for Dell technicians to come out and service broken computers, it’s a cake walk, seriously. Easiest job ever.

The thing is I’m in such bad shape, that I can hardly make it to my cubicle without dropping from the exertion.  I’d say its about 200 feet, with maybe 15-20 stairs.  I’m extremely winded by the time I make it to the cubicle, but I am proud of myself, normally I would take the easy way out, and take the elevator.  In just 3 days I’ve noticed that it does seem to be getting a little easier.  I enjoy going up and down the stairs, and just am realizing it hurts now, but in 5 -6 months it won’t seem like anything at all.

I’ve also been eating about 2500 calories per day, and drinking a lot of water.

    I’m already feeling pretty good.

The visor.... my wife thinks this is OK.

The other day I was driving on the freeway, and my wife she’s an average girl 5′4″ give or take. Well she decides that the sun is in her eyes, and pulls my sun visor down. Now I’m taller than her not much but ENOUGH. Seriously - I could not see out the front window at all, I couldn’t even see an ounce of pavement, and here I was driving 70 miles per hour.  And she had the audacity to get upset because I yelled/freaked, sheesh. I about turned my undergarments from white to brown.

Wives do the funniest things sometimes. Luckily we made it home ok.

Have your wives done anything like this? (Wives - you can layout the oopsie’s that your husbands do as well)… I’m anxious to hear your responses.

Building my network and Getting some Publicity.

This blog isn’t just about me losing weight - it is also a marketing experiment, as well as a blogging experiment, I used to blog about making money online, or blog promotions, but ironically never made money doing this, mostly because the ‘make money’ blogging niche is the most saturated niche. How many bloggers, can say they weigh 555 lbs, and lose 300 lbs while everyone watches.

I’m working right now on building an infrastructure.

Currently, I’ve got a page for xanga, myspace, facebook, etc.. However for some reason Blog Catalog, doesn’t think this is a blog, yet why else would I have a domain name, and a wordpress install?

I’m hoping they change their mind because I always liked that site.

Mybloglog, on the other hand had no issues. Neither did Technorati.

I’ll be adding even more - My goal is to get networked up the wazoo — and one great way to help me out - is to tell all your friends to bookmark my pages, and tell everyone they know, and maybe a few people will have the means to help me out. That’s all I ask, or want.

Lets see how far this project can spread.

My goal after this is to pick 5-10 people who weigh have a BMI of 50 or greater, and help change their lives as well.

Why am I doing this ???

I need help. A man comes to this place in his life, sometimes where he takes a different path, or dies.

I choose to live. I’ve got 4-10 years of good health left. But I can hardly move 20 feet without getting winded. This is embarrassing but I can hardly wipe my own butt, my arm hardly reaches and it hurts to bend and stretch, I actually have to use a wall to brace myself - and bend my arm further than it’s supposed to go, in order to reach.

Two years ago I weighed 450 lbs. Had no trouble going potty. Could reach pretty far in the rear direction. My back didn’t hurt nearly as much as it does now. I didn’t fall asleep at least once every 30 minutes (lack of oxygen intake / sleep apnea). I could walk more than 20 feet, heck I could walk 3 miles, and did for 2 months, then I moved and got out of the hang of things, went off a diet I’d started….etc..etc…

Debt…my other big issue… For the months of November and December neither my wife nor I have held a job. We’ve had to ask our church for help, and pretty much every relative of ours screens our calls, afraid we’re calling to ask for more handouts. Yeah the economy is bad, but sometimes I just hate my life so bad I don’t feel like I care anymore, and badda bing badda bang, out of work.

This is my chance at life, and at change. I’m not trying to write a pissy letter and make you pity me, no — I want to prove that even in hard times people can band together and people can overcome the worst of situations.

This is my Blog. My name is Patrick William Curl. My father is Michael Lee Curl(who I’ve never met, if you know him direct him my way - I am from the Dayton, OH / Kettering, OH area - and am assuming he is too, or at least has some acquaintance there. My mother is Joyce Ann Patton(Maiden name). I have two brothers, an evil Stepdad lol. I also have 2 brothers (well technically half-brothers). I love em’ but they got problems too…that though is another blog entirely, and I’ll let my mom handle that one.

Last but not least, I have a beautiful and wonderful wife - named Elka L Curl (Boyter, maiden name), maybe you know her if you’re from Cedar City - UT, or lived in Mesa, Salt Lake, Cedar City, Enoch(ut), Ephraim(Snow College Alumni)…etc..

She’s funny, sweet, romantic, and loving - what more could a guy ask for?

One more issue, and the most devastating, especially to my wife, who’s only dream is to be a mommy, is that we are running into brick walls with trying to conceive. The doctors say, that we stand a good chance though IF I lose about 200 lbs. She deserves it, if you don’t like what I have to say on this blog, then sponsor my weight loss to benefit her…

    Quicky info about me:

    Music

Love all kinds, beatles are the founders of everything good, I love linkin’ park, I am not a fan of One Republic, because in my opinion they stole their style from Linkin’ Park.

I love Evanescence, and if my wife weren’t so wonderful I’d be married to Amy Lee, lol.. Or wake up from my dream, but in any case, they rock - and I got to go see them play for my birthday - the concert was totally sweet.

Other faves: Nickelback, Weezer, Erasure, Alphaville, A-ha, Beautiful South, Beach Boys, Simple plan, Papa Roach, Breaking Benjamin, etc….

    Movies:

Lord of the Rings, and anything fantasy. Nuff Said.

More: (*Warning this may get political*)…

I’m Mormon / LDS, Democrat, Liberal, Kucinich supporter, Edwards Supporter, I like Huckabee better than Mitt Romney and yes I’m a devout Mormon. Did I mention I was LDS? lol - I may not be your normal Utah bred Mormon, but I don’t believe in Illegal Wars. I don’t believe in a government that can get away with anything. I don’t believe in a Media that has total control over what we know and believe.

I don’t believe in an America that cares more about wealthy corporations than its citizens. I DO believe in Universal Healthcare, I DO Believe this war needs to end. I Believe that we need to get our heads out of everyone else’s business until we’ve got our own home in order - for instance immigration issues, poverty issues, power issues, rights issues, equality issues, education issues, etc…

People love saying that living in America is living in the best nation in the world, and I like to say really? Then show me the proof.

To be the best we would have to be #1 in Healthcare, Education, Lack of Poverty, Strongest Currency, Beautification of Cities, more homeowners per capita than any other country? Less crime per capita….etc…etc…etc…. As Rome, so shall be America, IF we don’t make some changes.

*You can breath now my political rant is at an end…*

Last but not least….. an Ugly Picture — the last of me at 555 LBS.

Going to the zoo to....uh..get weighed..

So today, I'm going to the zoo...to get weighed.

They have a scale by the Rhinos that supposedly compares your weight with that of a rhino, it is a huge scale, and can hold like ten people, sadly I may be part rhino, as I'm not far from their weight.

Anyhow, this will be my starting weight.

I've also managed to gain some sponsors for my weight... This could be awesome, it'd be so awesome to lose weight and find myself out of debt, and maybe I'll get enough for a nice down payment on a new home.

If you would like to donate, let me know - How it works - you basically tell me how much you're going to donate per pound that I lose. I will be supplying you with updated news on my journey via pictures and videos.

My goal is to lose roughly 300 lbs, or more. So if $300 is a little high for you to donate, then maybe you would like to donate 5-10 cents, instead of $1/pound.

Everyone who sponsors me, will get some link love on my blogs. Those who sponsor me with $1 or more, will get free advertising across all my websites.  I will be plugging my $1+ sponsors
in just about every blog post. So there's some good exposure there.

Anyways, that's all I gots for an update. Another way to 'sponsor' my weight loss, is just to share the word, tell other's about my plight, and hopefully one of them might donate some as well. Trust me, I need the motivation, the more sponsors the more motivated ....see (I must lost at least 150 lbs, before I can collect $1.00)....

Anyways, that's all for now, talk to you later...

    Planning to Lose

I'm a man on a mission...to be the biggest loser.

Last night I watched the season Premier of the new Biggest Loser Couples Edition.

As part of the program they have challenged me(and the rest of America) to lose a million pounds.

I currently weigh 550 lbs(or there abouts as my scale doesn't go past 500lbs). My goal weight is 250 lbs, I'd be happy to reach that weight, sure more would be better. Right now, I'm in good health per my doctor, other than my weight I haven't had high blood pressure, or sugar, etc...but of course in time my chances of becoming sick because of my weight are very good.

My wife and I have been trying to 'conceive' for 2.5 years now, and I believe my weight may  be a significant limiting factor in why we can't conceive. This has been hard for the both of us, and we are determined to make a change this year.

My wife and I are teaming up and going to both be using this live spaces account to document this experience.
    Here are our current stats:

    ME: 5'11, 550 lbs.
    HER: 5'5, 223 lbs.

    Total Combined Weight: 773 lbs.
My goal: Lose 300 lbs and weigh 250 lbs.
Her goal: Lose 73 lbs and weigh 150 lbs.

Our combined goal to lose 373 lbs, and weigh a combined 400 lbs.
    Goal date: January 1st 2009.

    HOW YOU CAN HELP:
If you'd like to help us, reach our goal we would really appreciate some added motivation, in other words you can sponsor our weightloss. You can give whatever you like, from 5 cents per pound loss to $1000 per pound(Wishful thinking!). I will give free advertising for anyone who sponsors my weight on this site as well as my other blogs. You could also help us pay for a gym membership due to limited funds, or offer some sort of gift or prize when either one of us reaches some sort of milestone,  like the first 50 lbs, or our goal weight, etc.
